Childe Hassam, The Victorian chair, 1906. The painting shows a beautiful woman sitting in an armchair patterned with red roses and other flowers. I especially like the artist's treatment of the white dress. Childe Hassam (1859 – 1935) was an American painter, perhaps most noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Together with Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman he was instrumental in making Impressionism known in America.
